Blogger challenge #12 -to learn

Challenge12This is inspirational week. We were to find something that inspired us and create a card. I found my inspiration from another card. Let me explain. I bought the latest copy of the magazine "Card Creations" to learn a little more about composition and the art of card making. I would love to be published someday, but I don't feel confident enough or understand what makes a good card tick, so to speak. So I wanted to hunt for clues, that maybe I could use to improve my cards.  I dropped the book on the floor to see where it opened for my first investigation.
I found the card inside, that was also on the cover.
Inspire12 I asked several people' "Why do you think this card was chosen to be published in this magazine?"

teenage son - shoulder shrug.
husband - maybe the sewing on the card
friend - cute flowers
friend - colorful.

I was not happy with my card when I copied it more accurately, so maybe I will never "get it", but I like my card. I had fun sewing on it. I think It's colorful, I have cute flowers, and ( as I shrug my shoulders) it will work for the blogger challenge.  Why do you think it was published, and on the cover, even?  Tell me please.

Be sure and check out other inspiring bloggers, and stay tuned for my blogger choice award.

WOW! What a great job re making the inspriation piece. Great colors-and so cheery!

I, too, like your remake of the original card. I just picked up that magazine the other day...

Connie

I think your card is awesome. I LOVE the stitching...you did a great job with it! I need to get more brave with my singer...it's not like I'm using it for anything else. One thing that I think has helped me learn more about my own stamping style is to really examine what EXACTLY it is that attracts me to cards I like. Is it the color, the matting, etc. By really examing those elements, I've learned to incorporate them into my own creative process.

Maggie: I think your card turned out beautiful! I love the sun and the flowers! Also, in case you want to read more about what it takes to be published, Lisa has been doing a few articles about what they look for that I found informative: http://www.monalisamoments.com/mona_lisa_moments/

Great job!

Maggie, your card came out great! It's always fun for me to try and case a card using the stamps and supplies that I have on hand.

What draws me to the card on the magazine cover is the bright colors and how the playfulness of the font in the sentiment really compliments the simple line art of the flowers and butterfly. I think the spiral stems on the flowers adds to that playful feeling as well.

I love your card and the interpretation is outstanding. You used the Singer like a master!!! As for what it takes to be published - it is only my opinion and I only have personal experience with Stampington publications - follow the directions and submit what they are asking for (like the theme or challenge/sketch), be on time, and do your best work (by this I mean make sure your paper cutter is sharp and gives a clean cut, images stamped well and clear). I've never submitted to any of the other magazines or publications so can't really comment on what it takes to get published in those.
